Released today! Ceremony – A New Order Tribute…

I’ve contributed three radio-friendly selections to pay tribute to New Order, honor Tony Wilson and to benefit his Salford Foundation. Further adventures in pop territory Summer 2010 with Foreseeable Futures EP.

CEREMONY – A New Order Tribute
benefits the Salford Foundation Trust’s Tony Wilson Awards

Florida independent record label, 24 Hour Service Station, has assembled a Double CD Tribute Album honoring the music of New Order entitled CEREMONY – A New Order Tribute. The Album as well as two additional Digital Only Collections are scheduled for release on February 20, 2010.

Participants have donated their version of a favorite New Order track, and many have also contributed their take on “Ceremony”.

A portion of the proceeds from record sales will benefit the Salford Foundation Trust’s Tony Wilson Awards, established in memory of Tony Wilson, the founding father of landmark independent record label Factory Records, who died of cancer in 2007. The trust will benefit children and young people who can demonstrate a special talent or ambition in the arts or creative skills.

The idea for this tribute came about in 2007, when Tony Wilson passed away from cancer. Marshall Dickson, founder of 24 Hour Service Station, was stirred to put together a fitting tribute to his hero. Upon discovery that a charity had been established in Wilson’s name to aide children with creative & musical skills, the pieces came together. By late 2008, the project became an international endeavor when Ceremony was helmed by partner Sonshine Ward, who seeked out contributing artists from around the globe that were equally inspired by Wilson and moved by his passing.

MDEX1512 was shelved a few years back after encountering mastering issues from a known heavyweight in US vinyl mastering. Plans to master for vinyl abroad were then put aside with the closing of BOTH Watts Music and Syntax Distribution. Watts, our main distributor/ exporter, championed our vinyl releases and Jeff, Wendy… all were an absolute joy to do business with. They are dearly missed…

Flash-forward to 2009 and now, with the absence of primary distribution, all new releases (and a few old) are digital only. MDEX15 and MDEX16 are live at Juno Download. MDEX17, released on vinyl Fall 2008, is also live.

Available formats are wav & mp3 (320k & 192k).

Fond, fond memories of this mix. My first stop during a weeklong stay in Amsterdam (before even buying groceries) was to Outland Records. I own at least three records on the Outland imprint and I wouldn’t trade ‘em for the world. Naturally, I had to see what it was all about. I met DJ Jerome (owner) who handed me this mix. Live wire is the only thing that came to mind at first listen and it’s the only thing that comes to mind today. I have yet to hear another DJ play with this much intensity and raw power. Heh… towards the end, it sounds as if even the mixer had broken out in a sweat. Funky, intelligent, strangely groovy while at the same time frenzied. I was so moved by this mix that I asked Jerome if I could post it on my site in ’05

I don’t have many “wish I had been there” moments in club culture but this is definitely one of them.
